Sanjeev Karpe

Sanjeev Shashikant Karpe, as the guiding force at the Konkan Bamboo & Cane Development Centre (KONBAC) in Kudal, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, he has played a pivotal role in advancing sustainable bamboo initiatives.
Sanjeev is a Co-founder & Director of JANS Bamboo Products Pvt. Ltd., a social enterprise credited with the construction of the largest bamboo project in India, spanning an expansive 1,00,000 square feet. Additionally, he is also a Co-founder & Director of 'Woodygrass,' a Bamboo-centric multi-brand e-commerce platform showcasing contemporary bamboo furniture and home décor products.

Internationally recognized, Sanjeev contributes significantly to the development of global bamboo sector as an Expert Member on the International Network for Bamboo & Rattan (INBAR)’s Bamboo Construction Task Force and as a key expert in the Technical Committee (TC-165) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Within the governmental sphere, he holds crucial positions as a Member of the 'Advisory Group for Bamboo Sector Development' under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India (GOI), a Member of the ‘Advisory Group on Bamboo Plantation' under the Ministry of Rural Development, GOI and as a member of the Task Force for the 'Use of Biochar in the Steel Industry' under the Ministry of Steel, GOI.

Further, Sanjeev actively contributes to the drafting of Indian standards on bamboo furniture as a Member of the Working Group by the Civil Engineering Department of the Bureau of Indian Standards, GOI. He is also a Member of the sub-working group on Engineered Bamboo formed by Niti Aayog, GOI, and a member on the ‘Project Steering Committee’ of the Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI), Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, GOI.

His commitment extends to academia, where he serves on the University of Mumbai’s Board of Studies, the advisory board of Gondwana University, and the Research Advisory Group of Tropical Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur, MP.
In addition, Sanjeev is a Director with the Centre for Indian Bamboo Resource & Technology (CIBART), an NGO established in 2002 as an apex technical and policy organization dedicated to bamboo-related rural, economic, and environmental development.

He also a member of National Governing Council of Bamboo Society of India, Bangalore, an NGO actively promoting bamboo for the past 32 years.
