The Bamboo Grove - Eco lodge & Centre for experiential learning

In the islands of Anavachal, a number of eco-lodges have been constructed in a vast bamboo grove to give tourists a feel of a typical tribal hut. These dwellings are made exclusively of natural materials like bamboo, grass, screw pine and so on. The eco-lodges also act as experimental learning centres.

Nature lovers may attend the programmes conducted here by the Forest Department. As part of such programmes, Nature sensitisation camps and lectures are organized in the thatched seminar hall and field visits are also conducted.

Bamboo Rafting

This is a dawn-to-dusk protection-oriented range hiking and rafting programme. The route is through some of the richest forest tracts of Periyar Tiger Reserve. In this programme, the tourists can enjoy trekking for a few hours through a variety of habitats and then they are taken on a bamboo raft on the lake. After lunch break, the tourists return to base in the same manner.

In this package, tourists stand a high chance of spotting exotic wildlife like the giant squirrels and the Nilgiri Langurs. Various birds, elephants, gaur, sambar and other animals are usually sighted during the rafting trip. While rafting across the lake you can also feast your eyes on the thick greenery of the shores and on a good day, you may even get to see aboriginals fishing in the lake.

An armed guard and four guides accompany a maximum of 10 tourists in this package. Tea, snacks and packed lunch are provided.

BAMBOO GROVE COTTAGES, PERIYAR TIGER RESERVE

The two islets of elevated ground studded with bamboo thickets in Thekkady is the eco lodge for experiential learning. Here a miniature habitat is being recreated for man and nature to co-exist in the already available milieu of grassy downs, sedges and bamboos and stream fringed with screw pine. Dwelling units made exclusively of natural materials like bamboo and grass and tents are slotted in the available space together with treetop huts to give the place an eco-friendly ambience. Experiential learning and nature sensitization camps are conducted for discerning aspirants and the programme addresses different target groups, Lectures, discussions, audiovisual presentations, field visits etc. go with the programme. Bamboo Grooves is an Eco-friendly cottage in which two people can stay in one hut and we are not providing any extra bed. Bamboo Grooves is of With Package and Without Package

JUNGLE SCOUT- BAMBOO GROVE, PERIYAR TIGER RESERVE

Description

This is a regular night patrolling program in the fringes of the Eco development zone of the Tiger Reserve in the company of armed guards between 7 pm and 4 am (7pm-10, 10-1am, 1-4am). This program injects excitement into the experience while keeping smugglers at bay. The program also provides fascinating macrophotography opportunities. One really feels like a cop protecting the precious forest wealth. Of course, these best suits younger visitors fit and disciplined enough to walk in the silence of the night.
