Bamboo Retreat Hotel, established in 2004 by Helen Kämpf from Switzerland and her late husband, is nestled amidst terraced rice fields, lush bamboo groves, and serene gardens in Sajong, Rumtek Block, near Gangtok, Sikkim. The hotel spans approximately 1.5 hectares, where a diverse array of native vegetables, flowers, medicinal plants, culinary herbs, and ornamentals are cultivated organically, adhering to principles of permaculture, organic gardening, and agroecology.
Helen's passion for ethnobotany and organic farming is evident in the hotel's operations and the bespoke tours she curates through Terralaya Travels, offering immersive experiences across Sikkim, Northeast India, Bhutan, and beyond. Since 2019, Bhawana, an entrepreneur and garden designer, has collaborated with Helen to further the vision of establishing Bamboo Retreat Hotel as a self-sustained eco-hotel.
Guests are invited to savor organic, farm-to-table seasonal Sikkimese dishes, uniquely prepared by the hotel's dedicated team.
